Christmas Arrives Early...

Here at RBH we already getting involved in Christmas cheer, after all it’s now September and campaigns will go live in only a couple of months!

So to help us understand what really makes Christmas special, we got everyone in the agency to let us know, “What really makes you feel that Christmas has arrived?”

And here’s what they said:

  • Playing a dodgy old Christmas CD whilst getting the decorations from the loft and unwrapping new exciting ones to decorate the tree.

  • Wrapping up gifts. Taking off the polish on the table tops as the tape strands have been positioned strategically ready to wrap the next parcel.

  • Indulging in mince pies and mulled wine.

  • Rolling home drunk from the local pub with stolen tinsel wrapped around us, singing merrily!

  • Driving home and seeing lights up on other people's houses.

  • Starting to tell my son Christmas stories at bedtime.

  • Having the annual debate with the wife over when the tree is going up.

  • Carol singers on the high street or at the front door.

  • The smell of the tree in the house.

  • Watching movies like Miracle on 34th Street, Love Actually, The Holiday, Muppet Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life.

  • Visiting the German Market.

  • Family (son, daughter with partners, etc.) arriving from points around the UK to spend Christmas together.

  • Getting the turkey, vegetables, etc. from the local Farm shop on Christmas Eve.

  • The School Carol Concert.

  • Breaking open the first tin of Miniature Heroes (usually at the same time as watching the above)

  • Hearing Noddy Holder belt out "Iiiit's Chriiiiiistmaaaaaaaas" for the first time.

  • Smell of freshly baked mince pies from the kitchen

  • Placing a stocking at the end of the bed.

  • Hearing 'Fairytale of New York' on the radio for the first time.

  • The smell of Christmas Spice candles.

  • The first bars of Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas/Cliff’s Saviour’s Day/Mistletoe & Wine.

  • As a child, our town toyshop used to write "Only 10" in the window when there was 10 weeks till Christmas. It would count down each week till the last week. Then you knew it was Christmas.

  • In Dulci Jublio being played none stop in shopping centres.

  • Writing Christmas cards and wrapping presents whilst watching a Christmas classic movie.

  • A family trip out to the local farm to buy a Christmas tree.

  • Drinking mulled wine and shopping for gifts at the Christmas markets.

  • I first start getting 'Christmassy' when the dark nights come in and it gets colder, the first frost in the winter.

  • Buying Christmas cards.

  • The first play of the Coca-Cola advert, ‘Holidays are coming…’

  • Lights being switched on in city centre.

  • Opening a big tin of Quality Street.

  • Making homemade treats to give as pressies (Panettone or chilli vodka, pickled pears or shallots, booze soused fruits).
